Loch Kelly: The Unfolding After Initial Awakening: Level 2 Retreat
Day long event: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
This retreat is for those who will have read LochÕs book, Shift Into Freedom, and listened to the audio of the meditations before the weekend. This is not to exclude anyone, but to be able to dive deeply into the support of realization, abiding, expression and unfolding.
“Loch Kelly is one of the clearest expressions of authentic awakened freedom and love that I know. Shift Into Freedom is a shining gem in the modern spiritual landscape.”
– Adyashanti from his Foreword to Shift Into Freedom
“Many of us have had glimpses of the freedom from separate sense of self or periods of resting in pure awareness. Whether this occurred unintentionally, through an intentional method or letting go of methods, it can be a powerful, but initial Òwaking up.Ó Some consider this transcendent “not-dual” state the goal of awakening and can end up in a detached witness, a couch-potato stage, or continually Ògetting it and losing it.Ó
Just as there are helpful pointers to “waking up,” there are ways to discover the unfolding of Òwaking-inÓ to a natural embodied well-being and then Òwaking-outÓ to be able to create and compassionately relate. Each stage brings its own liberation. Waking up leads to freedom from the fear of death. Waking-in leads to freedom from the fear of life. And waking-out leads to freedom from the fear of love. In this workshop, you will learn LochÕs contemporary versions of ancient wisdom practices in order to abide, welcome, and liberate shadow parts. We will learn to navigate our own consciousness through small glimpses of our true nature. From this intrinsic support, we can unburden our wounded and protective parts, allowing us to embody and live from the joy of open-hearted awareness.Ó
Loch Kelly is an author, psychotherapist, and contemporary meditation teacher who was asked to teach by Adyashanti. He is the founder of the non-profit Open-Hearted Awareness Institute, whose goal is to make compassionate awakening more available to everyone. After a spontaneous awakening early in his life, he went on to explore how to access, abide in, and live from awake awareness. In the early 1980Õs, Loch was awarded a fellowship to study forms of non-dual meditation in Sri Lanka, India and Nepal with teachers from a variety of traditions, including the legendary Dzogchen master, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche.
He has also worked extensively with the homeless, with families of 9/11 victims, and as an Interspiritual Chaplain at Union Theological Seminary, and has collaborated with neuroscientists in the study of awareness training. He is known for his warm sense of humor, and his practical, non-dual pointers, which help people shift into the freedom that has always been their true nature. His new book and audio CD, published by Sounds True, Shift Into Freedom: The Science and Practice of Open-Hearted Awareness, has won two ÒBest Books of the Year AwardsÓ including one from Spirituality & Health Magazine.
